Karl, started his career in the repair industry as an apprentice panel beater and opened his first bodyshop with only himself and an apprentice repairing cars for the first few months.
This early involvement in apprenticeships developed into a core strategy and belief of the business as the company grew, and many of the business' early apprentices remain part of the Vella Team to this day.
Over the years, the dedication and commitment of Karl and the team led to the company's training programmes winning a variety of rewards; with Karl himself earning the ultimate recognition in the Honours List in 2007, being awarded an MBE at Buckingham Palace and, in the same year, the IMI Industry Achiever Award.
In 2009, recognition came again when Karl was awarded the status of Chief Expert for Autobody Repair by World Skills, an international competition for apprentices from all fields of industry to showcase their skills. Which two of our current apprentices have both achieved silver in the 2020 IMI Skills Auto Competition, one in refinishing and the other in body repair
This year, The Vella Group won AutoRaise's Repairer Supporting Apprenticeships Award, which we are immensely overjoyed about winning. We have also been proud to be involved with AutoRaise. Karl was a founding trustee, and our Managing Director, Marc Holding, is a treasurer.
Currently, 10% of The Vella Group's workforce are apprentices, with plans in place to ensure that almost every department in the business has had the opportunity to have an apprentice within their team and contribute to their development.
We look forward to introducing you to some of our current apprentices we have employed in the business.
